Anholt OWF Back in Operation

The submarine cable that connects Anholt offshore wind farm to the grid has been repaired.

Energinet.dk reported that the repair work has gone faster than expected and that DONG Energy’s 400MW Anholt offshore wind farm has been feeding power to the Danish grid since Saturday.

The replacement of the two cable sections took 24 days, with a delay of several days due to harsh weather conditions.

Energinet.dk said it is still too early to say what the repair and expenses associated with the replacement will cost.

The submarine cable has been out of service the end of October, when Energinet.dk and its partners began the replacement of two parts of a total of approx. 25km long cable. A 400m section near Grenaa and a 4km section at the substation in Kattegat have been replaced.

A risk that these parts of the original cable could be faulty was discovered during the investigation of an error that put the cable out of service on 21 February, 2015.
