Kentish Flats Extension Produces First Power

Vattenfall’s Kentish Flats Extension offshore wind farm has produced its first electricity.

Melanie Rogers, the company’s local communications officer, witnessed the milestone which was achieved on Saturday afternoon.

She said: “I have been working on the project for over four years so to witness the turbines producing their first kilowatt is such an exciting experience.”

Two of the fifteen turbines are now generating electricity with the remaining 13 to follow shortly after.

The 49.5MW Kentish Flats Extension project comprises 15 MHI Vestas V112 3.3MW capable of powering around 35,000 households.
