The owners of quarry in the Lizard are facing another hurdle in an attempt to benefit from Swansea Bay tidal energy development.
Namely, the judge allowed Cornwall Against Dean Superquarry (CADS) group to challenge a Cornwall Council decision to allow Dean Quarry to reopen, writes Western Morning News.
CADS fears the reopening of the quarry would threaten Marine Conservation Zone called “The Manacles”, which is a home to rare species, including maerl beds, sea-fan anemones, spiny lobster and stalked jellyfish.
Dean Quarry owners plan to reopen the site in order to be able to supply stone for six-mile long breakwater Tidal Lagoon Swansea Bay.
They claim the quarry could up to GBP 190 million for the Cornish economy and create up to 50 jobs.
