Maersk Training Offers Opportunities in Newcastle

Maersk Training in Newcastle has spaces available on its Level 1 Certificate in Safe Working Practice in the Wind Turbine Industry (QCF) course starting on either Monday 22 June or Monday 29 June 2015, with further start dates later in the year, the company has announced.

Stuart Cameron, Managing Director at Maersk Training said: “Tough economic times mean unemployment rates are high in our region. Encouragingly, the offshore wind energy sector is expanding at a very fast pace and there are numerous opportunities for people seeking employment and looking to get into a thriving industry, however learning these safety skills is a vital prerequisite.

“This is a part time qualification for two days per week over six weeks and is suitable for anyone who would like to take the first step into retraining to get a job in the growing renewables industry.”

Funding is available for anyone aged between 19 and 24, living in the local area and interested in a Traineeship. All costs, including lunch and refreshments are fully funded for anyone who meets the entry criteria.

The course covers an introduction to manual handling, first aid, working at heights, fire safety, basic electrical awareness and staying safe in the marine environment in the wind turbine sector, plus an introduction to employment and employability in the wind turbine industry.

Everyone who successfully completes the course will receive a Maersk Training Level 1 Certificate in Safe Working Practice in the Wind Turbine Industry (QCF).

The aim of this qualification is to provide the essential knowledge of safety in the wind turbine industry, Maersk Training said.

Alan McKerns, HSEQ/Operations Manager at Skyform which has recruited candidates who have completed the course said: “The employees we have recruited who have completed the Maersk courses have both an excellent attitude and have demonstrated the necessary technical abilities to deliver the work we need to be completed.

“This course ensures that those chosen to proceed are technically competent to complete the course whilst also presenting themselves as keen, eager and diligent new technicians for companies bound by the challenges of this industry.”
