First BlueTec Tidal Platform to Be Named

Naming ceremony for the first BlueTec tidal platform will be held on April 9 in Den Helder, the Netherlands.

Shortly after the event, the tidal turbine will be installed offshore the isle of Texel and will start generating power for a Texel-based facility.

BlueTec is a joint project of 12 Dutch high-tech companies sharing their knowledge in order to take the next step in generating sustainable energy.

The cooperation between Bluewater, Damen, Van Oord/Acta Marine, Tocardo, SCHOTTEL Hydro, TKF, Vryhof, NIOZ, Nylacast and Tidal Test Centre bundles extensive experience in the maritime and offshore industry, in the field of design and operation of mooring platforms, shipbuilding, offshore dredging and installation, tidal turbines, power cables, anchors, research at sea and synthetic materials.

“This platform can be shipped and installed anywhere in the world, to provide clean electricity in remote areas and small islands, replacing expensive and polluting diesel generators,” said Allard van Hoeken, Head of New Energy at Bluewater Energy Services.
