India: Tamil Nadu Plans 200MW of Offshore Wind Energy

At a recently held Renewable Energy to Tamil Nadu (RE2TN) seminar, Sudeep Jain, chairman and managing director of Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA), has confirmed this Indian state’s efforts to develop offshore wind energy.

Since Tamil Nadu is planning to install 200 MW of offshore wind power by 2023, Jain said that Indian Government’s timely completion of a new policy on offshore wind energy generation would be very welcomed.

“Several clearances have to be obtained from the central agencies to set up an offshore wind power project,” India Gazette quotes Jain as saying.

In September of the last year, Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy selected Gujarat and Tamil Nadu as ideal locations to feature the first Indian offshore wind farms.
