Suzlon Explores Indian Offshore Wind, Senvion’s New Turbine in the Game

Suzlon Group is about to start a study off the coast of Gujarat, India, to determine feasibility of setting up an offshore wind farm there, according to the country’s media.

The company plant to install an offshore wind farm of a total capacity between 100MW and 300MW. Furthermore, Suzlon could use offshore wind turbines from its subsidiary Senvion, which recently installed a prototype of its 6.2M152 turbine on land to test it.

Since India pushes for 1 GW of renewable energy by 2020, the country’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy selected Gujarat and Tamil Nadu in September as ideal to feature the first Indian offshore wind farms.
