Germany to Allot Available Grid Connection Capacity

German Federal Network Agency launched a new initiative to allocate the 1,722.7MW grid connection capacity for the offshore wind developers.

Germany to Allocate Available Grid Connection Capacity

The available capacity will allow the country to reach its offshore wind goal of 7.7 GW by 2020.

According to the agency, interested parties have until 1 October 2014 to apply after which it will be decided whether the available capacity is going to be auctioned.

Capacity will only be auctioned if demand by applicants that have been admitted to the procedure exceeds 1,722.7 MW or the maximum capacity that is physically available for a given grid connection.

The decision will be made according to the new rules published in August this year by the Federal Network Agency.

“With the release of the available connection capacity and the available port capacity on each network connection systems, potential applicants can now decide on participation in the allocation process,” said Jochen Homann, President of the Federal Network Agency.
