EU Wind Capacity to Reach 192.5GW by 2020

European Wind Energy Agency (EWEA) has slashed 2020 wind energy numbers in its latest report.

EU Wind Capacity to Reach 192.5GW by 2020

The initial report predicted 230 GW by the end of the decade, but due to the economic downturn and regulatory instability Europe’s installed wind capacity will grow 64% to 192.5 GW, out of which offshore installations would reach almost 23.5 GW.

“A cocktail of regulatory uncertainty, ongoing climate and energy discussions at EU level and rapidly evolving national frameworks has contributed to these new scenarios,” EWEA Deputy Chief Executive Officer Justin Wilkes said.

The estimated capacity would produce 442 TWh meeting 14.9% of electricity consumption in Europe.

To meet the scenario, the industry would see up to €124 billion investment volume resulting in creation of around 100,000 jobs in this sector.
