China Lagging in Offshore Wind Industry

China is lagging behind its plans to build 5 GW of offshore wind power by 2015.

Having only 10 per cent of that capacity realised, China is three years behind its schedule, according to Bloomberg.

In 2011, the Chinese government set the 5GW goal for the next four years which would secure enough clean power for around 5.4 million households.

Li Junfeng, director general of the National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation, confirmed that the government’s objective “definitely can’t be attained.”

Joining China in slow development is USA, which still did not install its first offshore wind farm.
