Ormazabal to Provide Switchgear for Japanese Floating Offshore Wind Project

Ormazabal will provide CGMCOSMOS fully gas-insulated switchgear for the 7MW wind turbine generator system that comprises the second phase of the offshore floating project, undertaken by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and sponsored by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry on the Fukushima coast.

The project started in 2012 with the installation of a 66kV substation and a 2MW wind turbine generator system.  Throughout the second half of 2013 a second 7MW wind turbine generator system will be installed, in which Ormazabal, in addition to other aspects, has integrated the new generation of the circuit-breaker fully gas-insulated cubicle called the CGMCOSMOS-V.

This project is expected to generate the creation of employment as part of the recovery efforts in the wake of the great earthquake in eastern Japan. The success of this project could expand the renewable energy business on a global scale and lead to the development of a new Japanese export industry, whereby Ormazabal has the necessary qualities and experience to be able to contribute with efficient, safe and effective solutions to each project.
