2.4 MW Turbine Produces First Power Off Choshi, Japan

A big turbine started spinning off Choshi in Chiba prefecture, writes Kyodo News.

The 2.4 MW turbine produced its first power on Monday, as it was previously announced that the operation will commence this month. It has been installed within a research project with Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO).

This 126 meter high turbine has a bladed span of 92 meters.

Besides TRPCO, Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) is running this facility.

Another 2MW wind turbine is expected to be installed this month off Kitakyushu.

Construction of a turbine and an observation tower for each of these projects cost approximately USD 53 million.
