Humber Renewables Awards to Gather Champions of Region’s Green Energy Industry (UK)

Humber Renewables Awards to Gather Champions of Region's Green Energy Industry (UK)

Champions of the region’s growing green energy industry are to be celebrated at an awards ceremony. The Humber Renewables Awards will be staged with a ceremony at The Deep in Hull.

The event is the only one of its type dedicated to the area’s emerging renewable energy sector. First held last year, the awards return this year with more categories. Finalists in each of the ten sections have now been revealed.

The winners will be announced at a black tie dinner on Friday, March 1, hosted by television presenter Helen Fospero.

Organisers say those shortlisted reflect the diversity and strength of the Humber’s renewables industry and its associated supply chain.

Training providers, engineering firms, wind energy developers and businesses involved with solar and biomass technology are all represented.

Footprint Renewables has organised the event and Hull firm KC Business is the headline sponsor.

Sean Royce, KC’s commercial and finance director, said: “The emerging renewables sector remains a key opportunity for our region and in the last year significant progress has been made in preparing for its growth.

“Events like the Humber Renewables Awards help increase awareness of the sector, and with so many developments over recent months, this year’s event is more relevant than ever.”

Selby College’s training centre Powerskills UK is sponsoring the awards’ drinks reception.

Engineering manager Ian Muir said: “As a training provider in the area we feel we need to help develop the workforce in renewables for the new green agenda.

“The corridor from the Humber upwards to the major power stations like Drax is going to be the main contributor to green energy in the country.

“We have wind turbines, biomass and tidal energy and it fits in very well.”

Each of the award categories has been sponsored by a different company. One of these is safety company Arco.

Joint managing director Thomas Martin said: “Arco is delighted to be associated with the Humber Renewables Awards once again through our sponsorship of the Excellence in Renewables Skills and Training category.

“Our own training and consultancy division is working with a number of leading renewable energy companies to ensure the safety of their people in this growing and important industry.”

Andrew Morton, account director of Hull’s Footprint Renewables, said: “Bit by bit, renewable energy is emerging as an important, and significant, part of the Humber’s economic landscape.

“It’s only right this is reflected with a dedicated awards event. We’re delighted to once again stage the Humber Renewables Awards, which have grown for 2013, with more categories and an excellent set of nominations that demonstrate the green work and activity already going on in our region.

“The fantastic backing the awards have received from sponsors also illustrates how the wider business community recognises the significance of renewables.”

“As organisers, we’d like to pay tribute to each of the finalists and wish them the best of luck for next week.”
