UK 3sun Group Shortlisted for 2013 Spirit Enterprise Awards

3sun Group, a specialist provider of products and services to the energy industry, announced it has been shortlisted for three categories in the 2013 Spirit of Enterprise Awards, celebrating all that is outstanding in business and enterprise in the Borough of Great Yarmouth.

The group received recognition in the categories of Great Manufacturing and Engineering Business, Great Innovative Business and Investing in Young People.

The Great Manufacturing and Engineering Business Award acknowledges the Group’s excellent working practices that have had a significant impact on the business and oil and gas industry as a whole. The award also rewards exceptional growth through turnover, sales, exports or increase in workforce.

3sun Group managing director Graham Hacon said: “We are very proud to have been shortlisted for three categories at this year’s Spirit of Enterprise Awards. It is hugely encouraging to see the hard work and dedication of the team being recognised.

“The Group has experienced rapid growth in recent years, going from strength to strength with an increase in our staff numbers from one to 200. Since its inception, the company has grown significantly, with a start-up turnover of £1.5m having reached almost £12m in 5 years.”

The Group has also been shortlisted in the Investing in Young People category. The award acknowledges the company that can demonstrate significant investment, either financially or in kind, in young people. 3sun Group has dedicated time and money to apprenticeship schemes, providing opportunities for local youngsters to gain experience, mentoring and working with young technicians, having already invested £134,000 into staff training and development last year, before taking on 20 new apprentices.

Completing the hat trick is the Great Innovative Business Award category, which looks for an innovatively designed product that has helped the business to achieve commercial success. 3sun Group has been recognised for its ground-breaking electronic 3D visually based inspection system that has a number of benefits including improving safety by reducing offshore-man hours, risk and costs. Mr Hacon continues: “I am delighted that 3sun Group has been shortlisted for the Great Innovative Business Award which is in recognition of our electronic 3D visually based inspection system, developed in collaboration with Scottish & Southern Energy. It was designed to improve legislative compliance and safety standards on wind turbines and is proving very successful for our clients.

“If successful the awards will acknowledge our rapid expansion through hard work, excellent professional relationships, our absolute commitment to developing safety standards in the renewables industry and our support of apprenticeship schemes. I look forward to building on these achievements in the future.”

The winners will be announced at a prestigious black tie awards ceremony on 15th March 2013 at The Zest Rooms, Potters Leisure Resort, Great Yarmouth. The ceremony will celebrate all that is outstanding in business and enterprise in the Borough of Great Yarmouth, in categories including Great Manufacturing and Engineering Business, Great Business to Business Service, Great Business Engagement in the Community Award and Business of the Year.

3sun Group has headquarters in Great Yarmouth, England, and also bases in Oban, Aberdeen and in Bergen, Norway to support on-going rapid growth. It is also currently looking at other UK and overseas locations including a new facility in Esbjerg, Denmark.

3sun Group employs 200 staff offshore and onshore and is currently working on several projects in the UK and Europe. The Group has extensive overseas experience having worked in Europe, Asia, Africa, USA and New Zealand.
