Denmark: DONG Energy Further Expands Its Market Leadership

Every fifth offshore wind turbine in 2012 was built and operated by DONG Energy, the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) indicated in the findings of its Offshore Report. Thus, the Danish company was able to further expand its market leadership in offshore wind.

Last year, DONG Energy celebrated some of its firsts: the Anholt wind farm in Denmark, Lincs and London Array in the UK produced their first electricity in 2012. Likewise, the British Walney offshore wind farm was completely put into operation.

The EWEA report shows that DONG Energy now has a market share of 22% of total output.

Morten Hultberg Buchgreitz, DONG Energy’s board member in charge of the wind energy sector, said that the company is currently undergoing a strategic change, which includes a shift in energy production from conventional to renewable energy sources, with offshore wind playing a crucial role.

He added: The fact that we were nominated again in 2012 as a leader in planning and erection of offshore wind farms confirms that we have an advantage over our competitors in this area.”
