South Korea: Jeju to Get 84 MW Offshore Wind Farm

Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has won an order to build an 84MW wind farm off the Jeju Island, the company announced on Sunday.

Last month, SHI and Korea Southern Power Corporation (KOSPO) partnered up to establish a special purpose company Daejeong Offshore Wind Power, from which SHI has obtained this order.

The project will comprise 12 units of 7MW offshore wind turbines. The construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2014 and the first power is expected to flow in 2015.

SHI’s announcement is quoted by The Korea Herald: “The power farm on Jeju Island will be the nation’s first offshore wind power complex and its commercial operations will help the company build market leadership in the global wind power plant construction market.”
