Vietnam: Outdated Wind Turbine Technology, Warns ECC-HCMC Director

The Energy Conservation Center of HCMC has warned that the Can Gio wind farm could be using outdated technology, reports Vietnam Net.

Many developed countries have produced 6-7MW wind turbines, but this project is using 1.5MW wind turbines which could be outdated.

ECC-HCMC director Huynh Kim Tuoc said: “Other countries in the world no longer develop wind power projects using 1.5-MW turbines. Several groups in Germany, Spain and the U.S. have a lot of wind turbines of this kind in stockpile, so they want to sell off their products to Vietnam.”

Vietnam is also planning to develop offshore wind power, but due to the geological conditions they cannot install greater turbines than 1.6 MW.

On September 15, Cong Ly will inaugurate the first ten offshore wind turbines in Bac Lieu, with a capacity of 1.6 MW each.
