UK: Blue Offshore Finalises Turntable I Construction

The Blue Offshore management team announced that it has succesfully finalised the construction phase of the company’s first self-owned cable carousel system, Turntable I. Turntable I has positively passed Factury Acceptance Testing (FAT) to ensure it meets the design and performs as required.

Turntable I was designed by the Blue Offshore in-house engineering department in cooperation with Caley Ocean Systems. The entire system was assembled at the Swan Hunter Yard in Newcastle (UK).

The 23m outer diameter Turntable can handle a cable load capacity of approx. 5,000 tonnes and is modularly upgradeable to 28m and 32m, with respectively 7,000 and 9,000 tonnes cable load capacities. The complete system includes the uniquely adaptable modular Turntable system, loading arm assembly, tensioners, trackways and associated equipment.

Turntable I with its Loading Tower and additional equipment will be mobilised on the new DP2 Cable installation vessel from Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke GmbH (NSW) in Q3 of 2012. It will assist with the future and challenging installation of NSW submarine transmission cables across the Baltic Sea and the North Sea area.
