ScottishPower Comments Offshore Wind Cost Reduction Task Force Report

ScottishPower comments the report launched by the Offshore Wind Cost Reduction Task Force showing that the UK is on course to reduce the cost of electricity from offshore wind substantially over the next seven years.

Welcoming the report, Keith Anderson, ScottishPower Renewables CEO and Co-Chair of the Offshore Wind Developers’ Forum said:

“The Offshore wind industry will deliver substantial economic and environmental benefits to the UK, and driving costs down is one of the key challenges for the industry. This report shows that the wind industry is determined to rise to the challenge of reducing costs, in partnership with Government, by drawing on the experience of other sectors. A reduction of 30% is a huge step forward and is essential in delivering the offshore development programme.

“The UK is a leading market for offshore wind investment. From our company’s perspective, Iberdrola has already located its global offshore wind power headquarters in Glasgow, and ScottishPower Renewables is developing offshore wind projects which could generate nearly 10 GW of electricity in the UK alone. It is important that the UK continues to push ahead with the deployment of offshore wind to maintain its global leadership in the sector and maximises the potential of this industry.”
