Vietnam Gets First Offshore Wind Turbines

The first two offshore wind turbines have been installed off the south coast of Bac Lieu Province, reports TuoiTre News.

General Eclectic Company (GE) provided the turbines, which have been installed by the Cong Ly Construction and Trading Co Ltd, based in Bac Lieu.

This action is a part of the Bac Lieu Province Wind Power Plant Project Phase 1 to install 10 turbines, each 90 meters high and made of titan steel. The 8 remaining Phase 1 turbines are scheduled to be available by August or September.

The Bac Lieu project will install 62 turbines with a total capacity of 99.2 MW, with the ability to generate 56 million kWh per year. It is funded from US Import and Export Bank with a total cost of USD 250 million.

Cong Ly company applied for the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee permission to develop an offshore wind turbine system project off the Can Gio District’s Can Thanh Commune coast with 200 MW capacity.
