USA: SeaPlan and COMPASS Host Discussion for Coastal Resource Management

SeaPlan and COMPASS hosted a presentation and discussion, led by scientists, resource managers, and ocean users who explored some of the latest developments in tradeoff analysis for coastal resource management.

After introducing a science-based approach used in a just-completed pilot study off Massachusetts, the discussion considered how an ecosystem services approach can help managers and stakeholders get beyond common perceptions about “winners and losers” in ocean use conflicts to refocus the dialogue on overarching goals of coastal management plans.

Offshore wind turbines and aquaculture pens are just a few of the projects being tabled, which will affect the hundreds of thousands of boaters, according to the Associated Press.

SeaPlan invited about 68,000 boaters to take part in the online survey.
