Japan: Environmental Ministry to Conduct Floating Wind Turbine Trails

Due to the limited space for onshore wind turbines in Japan, the Japanese Environmental Ministry is planning to conduct trails for floating wind turbine off Kabashima Island in Nagasaki Prefecture later this month, the Daily Yomiuri informed.

Fisrtly, the ministry is going to test a small 100-kilowatt model with three 11-meter blades.

After completion of testing this model, the ministry will present a bigger 2MW model with 40-meter-long blades.

The ministry plans to install offshore wind turbines by 2016 and to achieve output of 5.6 million kilowatts by 2030.
