India: MNRE to Publish Offshore Wind Draft Guidelines Within a Month

As ET reported, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is likely to publish draft guidelines for offshore wind energy within a month, said Gomathi Nayagam, executive director of the Centre for Wind Energy Technology and chairman of the technical committee for offshore wind.

Experts are forecasting the Dhanushkodi, Tamilnadu to install the first offshore windmill in next five years.

Nayagam said: “Currently a 100 metre mast is being built to measure the wind up to seven levels.”

The offshore wind power is three to five times more expensive than onshore, but it is twice as efficient.

Panel discussed the ways to shorten the approval process due to the fact that there are at least a dozen approvals required to be able to install offshore wind turbines.
