Japanese giant Mitsubishi Power Systems Europe Ltd (MPSE) confirmed its announcement on investment of up to £100 million in an engineering facility in Edinburgh and thus strengthening Scottish economy, by bringing over 100 new jobs, BBC informs.

The facility will carry our research and development into offshore wind turbine technology.

Despite the surprise of a spokesman for Mitsubishi in the UK, who claims that a number of details are yet to be tackled, the announcement has been warmly welcomed by the Scottish public.

“It is fantastic news that it will create over 100 jobs in Scotland, with the potential for many more in the supply chain,” Prime Minister David Cameron, who is in official visit to Japan, said.

The investment is aimed at establishment of Edinburgh based Centre for Advanced Technology to develop ‘game changing’ green energy technologies and assist in their mass production. The endeavour also includes acquisition of Edinburgh firm Artemis intelligent Power (AIP).

If fruitful, the project could pave the way for creation of a major offshore wind turbine manufacturing site in Scotland.
