Vestas Appoints New Head of Offshore Business, Could Supply Wind Turbines for Kentish Flats (UK)

Danish wind turbine giant has appointed Hans Jörn Rieks as the head of the offshore business, reports Windpower Monthly.

Rieks, who had worked for Vestas for 18 years as the president of Vestas Central Europe, will replace Anders Søe Jensen, who lost his job due to the recent company restructuring.

Vestas has also been recognized as a preferred supplier by Vattenfall for the Kentish Flats offshore wind farm extension.

Vattenfall would like to extend the 30-turbine scheme by adding between 10 and 17 turbines. In case a deciosion is made to use 3 megawatt (MW) turbines, in the outcome additional total capacity of between 30 and 51MW would be installed.

Kentish Flats is an offshore wind farm located approximately 8.5 to 13 km north of Herne Bay and Whitstable in Kent.

It is comprised of 30 3MW Vestas turbines that are expected to generate more than 280 GWh of green electricity every year, which is equivalent to the total annual electricity need of more than 61,000 UK households.
