GSG Towers and Budimex Sign Contract for Tower Factory (Poland)

GSG Towers and Budimex have signed contract for the construction of the wind tower factory hall. The new facility will be constructed on the grounds of the Gdańsk Shipyard. GSG Towers will be responsible for the production of masts.

Both companies – Gdansk Shipyard and GSG Towers belong to one capital group – Gdansk Shipyard Group.

First there was a tender, then several months of negotiations and at last a final contractor was selected. The contract was signed on Thursday, 6th of October, in the conference room of Gdańsk Shipyard.

– This will be not only the largest, but also unique factory for on and offshore wind towers in Poland – says Andrzej Stokłosa, the President of Gdansk Shipyard – The building permit has already been obtained. The construction works are planned to be stared in mid-November. This contract and the factory are the consecutive points in our business plan – as the next stage of increasing the wind towers production capacity to about 300 units per year.

The facility with an area of 20 thousand m2 will be located opposite the existing prefabrication hall, where masts for wind turbines, as well as ships and steel structures are already being manufactured. The total investment cost will amount to approximately 180 million PLN.

Budimex will be responsible for construction of the factory hall, warehouse and offices, GSGT will provide all the necessary equipment i.e. machinery and devices, like overhead cranes or the entire technological lines.

It is worth mentioning that the facility along with the adjacent new cleaning and painting line will be equipped with most modern ecological solutions, like systems, which prevent penetration of harmful substances into the environment.

The production of wind towers at Gdansk Shipyard began late last year, however during less than one business year in the branch of renewable energy sources (RES) GSG Towers managed to sign framework agreements with key manufacturers of turbines. Thanks to those contracts GSG Towers has a guaranteed order book for the coming years.

Wind energy market in Poland as well as other countries of Central – Eastern Europe has high growth in perspective thanks to the support of the EU Directive, according to which 15% of the energy produced in Poland by 2020 must come from renewable sources. Such strong growth is also expected in the offshore wind farms energy production. Therefore, the new factory will be adjusted to produce not only the land towers (onshore), but also the marine ones (offshore).

The location of wind towers production in northern part of Poland provides an easy access to the Baltic Sea, which enables delivery of the prefabricated towers not only by land, but also by sea. Our clients are various European countries as well as wind farms located on the waters of the Baltic and the North Sea.

The production at the new factory is planned to start at the brining of 2013.
