Mingyang Commissions 16 MW Offshore Wind Turbine with 260-Metre Rotor Diameter in China

Mingyang Smart Energy’s MySE 16-260 offshore wind turbine has been commissioned and is operating at full capacity in China, according to the company, which now overtook Goldwind in having the biggest wind turbine in the world installed as Mingyang’s compatriot’s 16 MW model has a rotor diameter of 252 metres.

Mingyang launched a 16 MW turbine back in August 2021, when the company unveiled its MySE 16-242 model.

In December last year, Mingyang announced that it had produced the first blade for the MySE 16-260 offshore wind turbine, saying that this was the largest anti-typhoon wind turbine blade in the world.

With a rotor diameter of 260 metres, MySE 16-260 has a swept area of 53,902 square metres and is capable of generating 67 GWh of electricity per year, according to the company.

Mingyang just recently completed the installation of the first MySE 12-242 wind turbine at the Mingyang Qingzhou 4 offshore wind farm in the South China Sea, which will also comprise two wind turbines with an individual capacity of 16.6 MW.

As reported last month, China Three Gorges (CTG) and Goldwind recently installed the world’s first 16 MW wind turbine offshore at CTG’s 400 MW Zhangpu Liuao offshore wind farm in Pingtan, Fujian Province.

Goldwind’s GWH252-16MW model has a rotor diameter of 252 metres and a swept area of around 50,000 square metres, and is capable of generating more than 66 GWh of clean electricity per year, according to Goldwind.
