Mediterranean Offshore Wind Pioneer Presses Ahead

Van Oord’s jack-up MPI Resolution has installed the fourth wind turbine at the Beleolico offshore wind farm in Italy.

Last month, the jack-up finished the installation of the first wind turbine to be fitted on a commercial offshore wind farm in the Mediterranean sea.

The 30 MW Beleolico offshore wind farm, also known as Taranto, is located in Italy’s Apulia Region near the Taranto harbour.

The wind farm will comprise 10 MySE3.0-135 wind turbines manufactured and delivered by China’s MingYang Smart Energy.

The owner and developer of the project is Renexia SpA. MPI Resolution is in charge of installing the wind farm’s monopiles, wind turbines, and secondary steel.

Scheduled to be commissioned in 2022, the offshore wind farm will provide about 55,600 MWh of electricity per year, enough to meet the demand of around 18,500 households.
