Fugro Goes Full Circle on First UK Offshore Wind Farm (Video)
Fugro has shared a video showing the decommissioning of the Blyth project, the first offshore wind farm built in UK waters.
The Blyth offshore wind farm consisted of two 2MW turbines commissioned in December 2000, which were at that time the most powerful units.
Back then, Fugro supported E.ON with the site investigation and the installation of the 4MW offshore wind project.
Nineteen years later, the company assisted with the decommissioning, which took place in April last year.
One turbine was set to be recycled and reused for spare parts within E.ON’s onshore wind project, with the other used by the Port of Blyth for training purposes.
E.ON UK Renewables developed the 4MW offshore wind project in a consortium with Shell Renewables, Nuon UK and AMEC Wind.
