Siemens Gamesa will provide seven of its SG 4.5-145 turbines for the 32MW project located some 2-5km off the coast, as well as O&M services for a period of 10 years.

According to the company, onshore wind turbines have been re-engineered and adapted to the nearshore environment.

“We are coordinating the discussions with the financing parties, which includes at this stage the Danish Export Credit Agency, an international bank and one of Vietnam’s largest banks,” said Richard Paul Luijendijk, Siemens Gamesa Onshore CEO in APAC.

“For two years we have been working on a tailored financing solution to address Tan Hoan Cau JSC’s requirements and the challenges of the Vietnamese market and offer our customer the most bankable and competitive debt package available in the market.”

The order marks the first time this turbine model will be used in Vietnam, as well as Siemens Gamesa’s first agreement with Tan Hoan Cau JSC, a local hydro and wind power provider.

Conditionally, Siemens Gamesa will supply seven more SG 4.5-145 turbines for the second phase of the project.

The 60MW No. 5 Thanh Hai 1 & 2 wind farms will be located in Thanh Hai commune, Ben Tre province. The commissioning of the first phase is expected in mid-2020.
