Spica Technology Secures Burbo Bank Extension Contract
Spica Technology is to deliver 32 remote maintenance platforms to be installed on the wind turbines of Ørsted’s Burbo Bank Extension wind farm in Liverpool Bay, UK.
The 258MW wind farm comprises 32 MHI Vestas 8MW wind turbines which have been in operation since May 2017.
The remote maintenance platform is an add-on data collection system that has the purpose to measure and collect big data from the turbines in order to analyse data and trends over time to optimize levelized cost of energy (LCoE).
The systems are to be installed during the second quarter of 2019.
The remote maintenance platform is a stand-alone data collection system solution which is designed and produced by Spica Technology based on the requirements from Ørsted. Before the installation at Burbo Bank Extension, Spica Technology is also involved in testing the software which is delivered by Beckhoff Automation.
Burbo Bank Extension is the first project in the world to use 8MW wind turbines.
