Deepwater Wind, the developer of the first offshore wind farm in US waters, the 30MW Block Island, shared a photo of the jack-up installation vessel Brave Tern easing into place first tower sections onto one of the wind farm’s five foundations.

There is just one more tower section to be mounted on the foundation, Deepwater Wind said, after which the first of five Haliade 150-6MW turbines will be installed.

Brave Tern is supported by two lift boats, L/B Caitlin, and L/B Paul, during the turbine installation phase.

The Block Island wind farm, located some three miles off Block Island, Rhode Island, is expected to be fully commissioned by the end of 2016.
