Heerema Hartlepool will be in charge of fabricating the unmanned offshore substation, with project engineering and procurement being undertaken by Petrofac as part of the GE-Petrofac Consortium.

The Galloper offshore substation, scheduled for delivery in early 2017, will connect the wind turbines to a single offshore substation platform by subsea array cables. The substation will be linked to the onshore transition joint bay near Sizewell with two subsea export cables.

The offshore site is located within the outer Thames Estuary, 27 kilometres off the Suffolk coast, in water depths of up to 39 metres.

The Galloper OWF is an extension to the Greater Gabbard Wind Farm, but is being developed as an entirely separate entity. The wind farm will comprise 56 Siemens 6MW wind turbines, and once commissioned in the first quarter of 2018, it will produce enough clean power to meet the demand of around 336,000 average UK households.
