Mexico In Line for Wave Energy Farm

Wave energy technology company AW-Energy Oy and Mexican renewable energy developer ENAL have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop, design and deploy a 10MW wave farm off the Pacific coast of Mexico.

This wave farm will at its inception represent the first wave farm in operation in the Americas as well as one of the largest wave farms in the world, AW Energy said.

The information about this new joint-development between ENAL and AW-Energy was made public on November 18th, in Finland, in conjunction with the inauguration of AW-Energy’s wave energy converter test facility located in Järvenpää.

John Liljelund, CEO of AW-Energy said: “While I am excited by the opportunity this brings to AW-Energy as a technology developer, I am equally thrilled that we are now kick-starting the development of wholly new industry in Mexico and the Americas.”

Gerardo Hiriart, CEO of ENAL said that this could represent the first practical use of the energy of the oceans in México and soon be expanded to other Latin American countries.
