Virginia Aquarium Hosts Offshore Wind Public Meeting

The Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center hosted a public meeting regarding the potential offshore wind development off the Virginia’s coast last night, reports the Associated Press.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) sponsored this meeting, which focused on environmental impact of a 12MW wind energy project located around 20 miles offshore.

Namely, Dominion Virginia Power plans to deploy two Alstom 6-megawatt turbines mounted on innovative foundations near Virginia Beach. The wind farm would be capable of powering around 3,000 homes at peak demand.
