Germany: Accident in Emden during Transportation of Tripods

An accident occurred in Emden’s Great Sea Lock in the early evening of June 17, when a composite of two Dutch tugboats and a pontoon collided with a dolphin structure, the Waterway Police of Wilhelmshaven (Wasserschutzpolizei Wilhelmshaven) reported.

The towing composite was carrying three tripod foundations for the construction of offshore wind turbines. Since it was apparently not damaged in the collision, it could continue its journey to Bremerhaven. An investigation for violation of traffic rules has been initiated against the skipper, the Waterway Police says.

Whether any damage was caused to the structure and to what extent ‒ still remains unclear.

Tripod foundations are headed toward the construction site of Global Tech I. They were picked up by the pontoon “Louis” at Emden-based Nordseewerke and towed for handling at the ABC’s peninsula in Bremerhaven.

On June 17, the 40th tripod foundation, of total 80, was installed at the Global Tech I offshore wind farm’s site.
