Seabirds Studied at Alderney as Part of Renewables Investigation
As a part of an investigation of wind and tidal energy potential of the Channel Islands, the Alderney Wildlife Trust is conducting a study on the island’s seabirds.
The trust will observe feeding and foraging habits of shags and gannets for three years, using GPS technology to track their movements, the BBC reports.
As explained by the Trust’s Manager Roland Gauvain, the study would help determine where renewable energy generators could be placed to avoid birds’ encounters with wind turbines while flying and coming across tidal turbines while foraging below the water surface.
