USA: Providence Hosts Annual Marine Renewable Energy Technical Conference

USA Providence Hosts Annual Marine Renewable Energy Technical Conference

The 4th Annual Marine Renewable Energy Technical Conference was held at the Crowne Plaza in Providence, RI last week. Many scientists involved in the field of wave, tidal and offshore wind energy attended this conference, writes EcoRi.

The focus was put on methods for measuring the great energy potential of the oceans.

Even though energy harnessed from oceans is still in its early development stage, the Federal Government has recognized the potential of this resource providing grants to the University of Rhode Island, University of New Hampshire and the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth, that are researching this field.

John Miller, the director of the conference said that offshore wind and wave energy have an advantage over solar and onshore since they can provide a constant energy supply.
