UK Government Could Make Offshore Wind Investors to Backtrack

Big investors in the UK renewable energy sector have sent a letter to the Government, stating that they could stop their investment if the support for the sector decreases.

Latest discussions within the coalition Government over support for the offshore wind have made the sector’s global players concerned about the risk of political abandonment of green energy.

Among the seven signatories of the letter, which was revealed to Reuters, wind turbine manufacturers Vestas and Gamesa told the Secretary of State for Energy that they could quit  investing in the UK and go elsewhere if they sense the Government’s change of mind on supporting the renewables.

A copy of the letter was also sent to Prime Minister David Cameron and Finance Minister George Osborne, who raised hope of tax relief for the shale gas industry on Monday.
