Taiwan Plans 30MW Wave Tidal Project

Within the next few years, Taiwan’s National Science Council is planning to harness the power of Kuroshio Current, writes DigiTimes news site.

The Council has conducted a research in 2011, after which they have decided to invest around USD 100 million in a 30MW tidal wave project.

After its completion, the project would send electricity to the state-run Taiwan Power Company’s grid.

At the depth of 50 meters, the Kuroshio Current can reach speed that is more than enough to spin the turbine, which is 0,5 meters per second.
