UK: Dong Presents Plans for Walney Coast

Dong Energy gave a presentation to Cumbria County Council’s local committee for Barrow, about the new offshore wind farm in this area, writes Evening Mail news portal.

Three options are being reviewed for the expansion in the area of the Irish Sea, which would equal the size of the Isle of Man, those being: building of 209, 145m-high turbines, or 91 larger, 195m turbines, or a mixture of 91 of the larger and 40 of the smaller turbines.

However, Dong Energy’s communication manager Peter Sills faced strong questioning from councilors who asked about local job creation.

Mr. Sills said that during the two-year construction period, between 60 and 100 potential jobs would be created.

Councillor Anne Burns said: “There is very little benefit in terms of employment opportunities for this community. If you are going to be blotting our landscape, what are the benefits in doing that?”
