UK: Offshore Wind Could Push Teesside Up the Scale

In DECC’s recently announced results the North-East region came fourth from last with GBP 137.5 million of investment in renewables during 2011-12 period, creating 1,323 working positions, writes the nebusiness.co.uk news site.

However, business chiefs say Teesside is playing the “long game”, expecting the big projects from waste-to-energy to offshore wind to push it up the UK’s scale for renewables investment and employment.

Teesside was slowed down in this race when Gamesa chose Leith in Edinburgh instead of Hartlepool to build a turbine components plant earlier this year.

On the national level, approximately GBP 7 billion was invested, paving the way for 20,848 new jobs.
