Scottish Finance Secretary Negotiates about Closer Cooperation with Russia

There is an investment appetite from Russian investors,” said Scottish Finance Secretary John Swinney following the meetings with Russian Ambassador Alexander Yakovenko, on Monday at the Russian Embassy in London.

The talks were related to trade, investment and greater collaboration between Scotland and Russia. Since both of them have similar ambitions for economic growth, there was much to talk about. Two countries already have great collaboration in other fields and now there is a possibility to initiate a close cooperation within the renewable energy sector.

Mr. Swinney invited Russian companies to invest in renewable projects in Scotland, because that area has the potential to produce 25% of Europe’s tidal power.

In the next few years, Scotland is going to invest substantial resources in offshore wind, wave and tidal energy, Bloomberg reports.
