Alstom Extends Sheringham Shoal Service Contract

Alstom has been awarded a three-year service contract by Statkraft for the substations of the 317 MW Sheringham Shoal offshore wind farm, located off the coast of North Norfolk, England.

The contract, an extension of an existing one, covers emergency support as well as preventive maintenance for one onshore and two offshore substations serving the wind farm.

The two offshore substations, each weighing nearly 1,000 tonnes, were installed at the Sheringham Shoal wind farm in early May 2011. They were constructed by offshore construction specialist Heerema at its yard in Hartlepool in North East England following the award of a contract by ALSTOM.

Each substation is 30.5 metres long, 17.7 metres wide and 16 metres high.

An onshore substation is adjacent to the UK Power Network substation at Salle and connects the offshore wind farm to the grid through the 21.6 kilometre underground cable running from Weybourne to the substation.
