ITW Innovation Proves Effective

ITW Polymers Europe and ITW WindGroup distribute turnkey grouting solutions for on- and offshore wind turbine foundation and the recent innovations in the design of grouting equipment, made by ITW Polymers Europe, have already proved that it will have a major effect on the future Wind Turbine foundation installations.

Based upon a partnership approach and an analysis of customer needs ITW Polymers Europe has developed a solution, which eliminates issues which can occur on vessels during grouting, and meets the latest requirements in European HSE regulations.

By fully encapsulating mixing and pumping operations, ITW Polymers Europe found a way to eliminate spillage and splashes during the process and to minimize the cleaning necessity after grouting is completed. The well-defined requirements for a compact deck layout lead to the development of a scalable and flexible solution, which is a sustainable advantage on vessel decks.

“When minimizing the splashes of liquid grout and stopping it from running on surface of vessels, it is possible to reduce potential risk for vessel crew and damages of equipment on board of a vessel. That is why encapsulation of mixing and pumping operation brings significant improvement to health and safety issues during the offshore grouting. Finally the encapsulated mixing and pumping operations leaves a minimum of cleaning when the grouting equipment is removed from the vessel”, says Peter Gorlitz, Business Development Manager – Europe, ITW WindGroup.

Even though the equipment is brand new it has already been installed and used for the projects – Westemost Rough, Borgum Riffgrund and Butendiek.

During the past 20 years, ITW Polymers Europe (previously Densit) has specialized in the production and installation of especially developed ultrahigh performance cementitious based Densit® material for grouting offshore wind turbine connections.
