It is the world’s first offshore interconnector using the national grid connections of offshore wind farms to connect the power grids of the two countries.

The 400 MW high-voltage cable system transmitted the first power between the countries in July.

The official launch was so far delayed many times, most recently for the end of September.

“The joint connection through offshore wind farms between Denmark and Germany marks a milestone in the green transition. When we connect offshore wind farms and through them exchange power with each other, we help to bind Europe together in a new, green way,” said Danish Minister of Climate, Energy and Public Utilities Dan Jørgensen.

“At the same time, the new technology can contribute important experiences to the future Danish energy islands, which will supply green electricity in the North Sea and on Bornholm.”
