New Jersey’s OW Area Hits the Market

The U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) will hold an auction sale for the New Jersey offshore wind lease area today, offering approx. 344,000 acres for commercial wind energy leasing.

The area will be auctioned as two leases: South Lease Area, covering 160,480 acres, and North Lease Area, which consists of 183,353 acres.

The lease area has an offshore wind energy capacity of at least 3.4GW, which is enough to power an estimated 1.2 million homes, according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory.

Thirteen companies have been qualified to bid at the auction: Convalt Energy LLC, GSOE I LLC, EDF Renewable Energy Development Inc, Energy Management Inc, Fishermen’s Energy LLC, Green Sail Energy LLC, IBERDROLA RENEWABLES Inc, New Jersey Offshore Wind LLC, OffshoreMW LLC, RES America Developments Inc, Sea Breeze Energy LLC, US Mainstream Renewable Power (Offshore) Inc, and U.S. Wind Inc.
