Ulstein to Power Up Jan De Nul’s SRI Vessels

Ulstein Power & Control has been awarded a contract with AVIC Weihai Shipyard Co. Ltd. on power and control deliveries for two subsea rock installation vessels for Jan De Nul Group.

The Ulstein Power & Control delivery includes the Power package consisting of generators, switchboards, motor control centre, thruster frequency converters and motors, the automation system ULSTEIN IAS®, DP system and thruster control as well as the commissioning.

Managing director Gunnar H. Hide in Ulstein Power & Control said: “With the joint effort from our Headquarter in Norway and our office in China, we managed to win the contract based on price, delivery time, functionality and system quality. We are very grateful for the trust given to us both by AVIC Weihai Shipyard and Jan De Nul Group.”

Ulstein will be delivering the products and systems in 2016. The two vessels are scheduled for delivery from the yard in 2017.

The vessels will be able to install rock at depths up to about 600 m by means of a flexible fall pipe. An inclined fall pipe will enable accurate rock installation around structures such as offshore wind turbine foundations and Oil & Gas platforms.

The vessels will also act as a support vessel for a subsea trencher, for the burial of cables. In addition, a cable carrousel with related equipment can be installed on board, for placing cables on the seabed.
