Japan Estimates Its Renewable Energy Potential

Japanese Ministry of the Environment has published a report on renewable energy potential by 2030 and 2050.

According to the document, renewable energy could provide between 241.4 and 356.6 TWh by 2030. Wind energy (onshore and offshore) has the potential to reach 64.6TWh by 2030.

The Ministry said: “The calculation of prospects of renewable energy is estimated with the several presumption of intensity of policy. We backcast the world in 2030 from the world in 2050 from the viewpoint of promoting renewable energy use. The grid constraint is also considered for the estimation.”

The report has been written by Environment and Energy Research Division of Mitsubishi Research Institute, Inc.
