USA: Statoil Formally Quits Hywind Maine

USA Statoil Formally Quits Hywind Maine

After the Norwegian energy company Statoil announced that they had canceled the wind energy project off Maine’s coast, Statoil US Holdings acting president Charles O’Brien sent a formal letter to the Public Utilities Commission.

“Statoil is withdrawing its proposal to the commission for a long-term contract for the Hywind Maine project,” stated O’Brein in the letter.

Statoil planned to build a USD 120 million offshore wind energy project consisting of four floating wind turbines 12 miles southeast of Boothbay Harbor.

The main reason for canceling the project was political uncertainty.
